BROOKS CITY BASE TOUR

Last week I was privileged to tour the hyperbaric building 160 at the former Brooks AFB. This was where the modern hyperbaric medicine really started by Jefferson Davis, MD.

The visit was facilitated by Brooks Development Corp and the Wyle Corporation who currently lease the building 170 and 160 sites.

The employees were very gracious in showing me  around and discussing the operation of the hyperbaric chamber there.  They had worked on the hyperbaric chamber when on active duty with the USAF and now are employees of Wyle Corp who has an air force contract to test pilots on the large centrifuge in building 170. They also did testingin the hypobaric chamber next to the hyperbaric chamber for the high altitude balloon jump  a few years ago.

We discussed using the hyperbaric chamber with the Wyle people and they said it was ok with them if the Brooks people signed off on the project.  Namely , treating veterans who are suffering from PTSD and TBI and are currently not receiving that type of treatment from the VA.

We  solicit comments and help for our project. First we must survey the facility and see what is needed.  My position is that the hyperbaric chamber and physical plant is too valuable a public resource to let fall in disrepair weather we can move forward with the PTSD/TBI study or not.

I was so taken with talking (as usual) I did not get any overall pictures but i have post what I have below.  I am quite interested in the nuts and bolts operation so the piping photos
